Custom Hand Painted Stones set in Jewelry
About
My name is Jerry, and I live in Plymouth, MI with my lovely wife, Emily. I began painting abstracts on canvas about 20 years ago. After a few years, my paint brushes and easel began collecting dust as I got involved in other things.
In 2018, I dusted off my art materials and began painting again. I noticed that the liquid paint color designs that dripped from my canvas artworks onto the table were more appealing than the paint designs that remained on the canvas. That is when I began experimenting with hand-painting colorful abstract art designs on the flat back surface of glass stones – sometimes called “cabochons”. The largest glass stone is 1” in diameter … sometimes a challenge to convey an abstract image and feeling on such a small surface.
I experimented with lots of different materials and techniques to arrive at where my art is today ~ what I have named “Pure Color Creations”. I chose the name to represent the beauty that I see in so many colors that nature gives us every day – especially in its wildlife. I have always liked the phrase “Pure Michigan” used to describe the awesome and diverse natural beauty that Michigan has year-round. Hence … Pure Color Creations.
Once I created these wonderful hand-painted glass stones, I needed something to do with them. I discovered the beauty of solid sterling silver jewelry. Together with the abstract art imbedded in the glass stones, I found the jewelry pieces so unique and so interesting to the eye. The jewelry becomes a very personal expression for the owner.
Over the past few years, I’ve broadened the sizes and shapes of the glass stones, and I expanded the selection of bracelet materials to include leather and cork. I added semi-precious natural stones. And, I added an “Accessories” line to offer my art pieces in something other than jewelry.
All Profits Go To Victims of Domestic Abuse & Human Trafficking
Through a local group that Emily is involved with, I became aware of the under-publicized, horrible effect of domestic violence and human trafficking that remains present throughout the world, including our own community. This is now our primary mission for Pure Color Creations. 100% of all profits are directly channeled to the victims of domestic abuse and human trafficking. We are trying to bring a little bit of joy to what is otherwise a very difficult time of their lives.
The pain that so many victims endure is staggering. As we looked for a way to try to be of some small help to so many victims, we initially partnered with Sanctum House in Metro Detroit to provide, free of charge, our jewelry pieces to these victims … who often have escaped with literally nothing! We give so little, and we receive so much when we see the smile and gratitude from these victims – who are at such a low point in their lives. They appreciate that someone cares about them. This had grown over the past few years to include involvement with several shelters. We also donate our jewelry (and jewelry parties) to their fund-raisers.
In the Movies
One of the many gifts that we have received back on our journey was the opportunity to be “background actors” (a.k.a. “extras”) in the production of a movie focused on domestic violence: “Finding Nicole” based on the true-life story of Nicole Beverly of Ypsilanti, MI. The book is available on Amazon. The movie was filmed in Lapeer, MI. We also had the opportunity to donate our jewelry – which was featured in the movie.
